Congo Natty – Ancestorz Rootz Of Jungle – Official Album Launch
Written by KNRadio on November 7, 2022
When it comes to the originators of the UK Jungle sound, Congo Natty is one of the most critical and influential founding fathers and most definitely part of the blueprint of the scene. Musically he has remained at the forefront since Jungle’s inception in the early 90s, releasing timeless classics, many of which continue to be played worldwide. This will be his first performance in Edinburgh since 2018 and the official launch of his first album since Jungle Revolution in 2015.
“Ancestorz” set for release on October 21st via NewState, is 30 tracks in weight; the album tells the tale of the global diaspora, weaving mystical roots from native America to India, Jamaica to Japan, giving a voice to the people. Congo describes it as his life’s work. If you haven’t had the opportunity to see Congo Natty live on stage at the many clubs, events and festivals he performs at every year, you are in for a truly unforgettable night.
If having Congo Natty wasn’t enough, we are stoked to welcome to his new Scottish residency at Jungle Magik, multi-award-winning Jungle historian Uncle Dugs. Dugs weekly daytime Friday 11am-2pm show on Rinse FM that has been one of the most popular shows on the station for over a decade. When we approached Dugs about having him on board, we were overjoyed when he agreed.
Also in support on the night, we have rising Edinburgh-based Pollyanna, the brains behind Edinburgh’s hugely popular monthly event Sunday Service alongside ever-present Jungle Magik resident DJ Kid.
MCs have played an integral part of the Jungle scene since the very start, and although some promoters seem to ignore this feature on their lines up, we won’t. For what is sure to be a momentous night for Jungle, not just in Edinburgh but in Scotland, we have invited Birmingham-based and scene-legend MC Magika to host the event.
